Press Release: Spelling Bee Aotearoa New Zealand
Chloe Wright, ONZM
Congratulations to Wright Family Foundation Founder and CEO Chloe Wright who was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) in the New Year Honours for her services to philanthropy, education and health!
Chloe is the Patron of Spelling Bee Aotearoa New Zealand and Wright Family Foundation is the Sponsor.
The honour recognises Chloe’s work with the Foundation, including her co-founding of BestStart Educare with husband Wayne Wright, the establishment of Birthing Centre, and her patronage of SuperGrans Aotearoa, WriteMark Plain English Awards Trust, Kids’ Lit Quiz, and Spelling Bee Aotearoa New Zealand.
We’re sure you’ll agree she’s a very deserving recipient.
2020 New Zealand Spelling Bee Cancelled
The decision was made to cancel the 2020 New Zealand Spelling Bee. The call was tough and took a long time to make but the impact of Covid-19 meant it just wasn’t logistically possible.
The stress on teachers, travel restrictions, the Government’s rules around mass gatherings and all the other uncertainties meant it is now not possible to continue with the competition.
This decision has been made with our sponsor, Wright Family Foundation. Its ongoing support as we navigate this challenging time is enormously appreciated.
An online Spelling Bee has been put together with Education Perfect. The first one will be this Monday at 3.30pm. It will be 20 minutes long and the word will be presented several times and then the student will see the correct spelling. Education Perfect will be providing these English based learning opportunities every Monday at 3.30pm for the next five weeks. They are available for every student who has access to the Education Perfect platform.
Education Perfect is a New Zealand based online learning platform that uses technology to improve student learning outcomes and support teachers in the classroom. It has partnered with the New Zealand Spelling Bee for the past three years and we are thrilled that we are able to work together to offer this learning opportunity to students especially given the extreme conditions everyone is operating under.
Teachers interested in signing up for the programme can find out more at www.spellingbee.co.nz.
